Germanic languages are languages based on the languages of the Germanic raiders of the Roman Empire. There are two major groups today, North Germanic and West Germanic. North Germanic contains the "Norse" languages (Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish and their dialects). The West Germanic languages are the "German" languages (German, Dutch, English, Afrikaans, Yiddish, and their dialects).
