Verbs: Motion is the forty-sixth (assuming read left to right) skill in the Russian language tree. This skill has six lessons, and teaches how the Russian system of motion verbs work.

Grammar NotesEdit

Russian verbs of motion come in two varieties: unidirectional and multidirectional. These are not indicated in the lessons themselves but they have been indicated below.


  • going to or from one place for one time and/or
  • used along with a по- prefix to indicate a perfective aspect to the movement, uni- or multidirectional.


  • general movement;
  • going to one place and returning; and
  • repeated trips to/from a place.


Lesson 1Edit

  • идти = to walk (uni-)
  • чаще = more
  • ходить = to walk (multi-)
  • кино = movie theatre, cinema
  • пешком = by foot
  • гляжи(те) = look!

Lesson 2Edit

  • ездить = to go (by vehicle, multi-)
  • ехать = to go (by vehicle, uni-)
  • шоссе = highway
  • каждый = every

Lesson 3Edit

  • летать = to fly (multi-)
  • летить = to fly (uni-)
  • самолёт = plane
  • голубь = pigeon
  • бегать = to run (multi-)
  • бежать = to run (uni-)

Lesson 4Edit

  • плавать = to swim (multi-)
  • назад = back

Lesson 5Edit

  • пруд = pond
  • середина = middle
  • Выездить = to lead
  • плыть = to swim (uni-)

Lesson 6Edit

  • побежать = to run (perfective)
  • пойти = to walk (perfective)
  • поехать = to go (perfective)
  • повернуть = to turn (around)
