Verbs: Gerund is the forty-seventh skill (assuming read left to right) in the Spanish language tree. It has four lessons and teaches how to use gerunds in Spanish to indicate an action that is happening right now.

Grammar NotesEdit

The present progressive tense is used to describe actions that are currently occurring. in English, we use "to be" + the verb in the gerund (ends in -ing). Spanish is exactly the same:

  • Present progressive = conjugated form of estar + gerund

Gerunds in Spanish are rather simple. One removes the ending (-ar, -er, or -ir) and adds:

  • -ando if it is an -ar verb
  • -iendo if it is an -ir or -er verb

There are however a few exceptions to this basic rule so watch out for those.
