Ki is the forty-third (assuming read left to right) skill in the Turkish language tree. It has a total of three lessons that teaches the word ki, which has many uses in Turkish.

Grammar NotesEdit

Ki is originally a Farsi word, and it has many uses in modern Turkish. This skill introduces them one at a time. Ki is also used in some set phrases (iyi ki is one of them).

Note that with the sole exception of dünkü and bugünkü, ki is always ki and does not obey vowel harmony.

PossessivesEdit

When ki is attached to a pronoun, it creates a possessive:

  • ben -> benimki ("mine")
  • siz -> sizinki ("yours")

For proper nouns, use the suffix -'(n)Inki

  • Emel -> Emel'inki ("Emel's")

Relative clausesEdit

Turkish cannot use nouns as adjectives without using ki to introduce a relative clause to relate the adjective-noun to the main noun.

  • Hastanedeki çocuklar = the children at the hospital ("the children who are at the hospital")
  • Parktaki ördek = the duck in the park ("the duck who is in the park")

Ki as a conjunctionEdit

Ki is also used as a conjunction for direct speech...

  • O bana dedi ki:"İyi aşkamlar!" = He said to me, "Good evening!"

...and as a word meaning "that"

  • Bilmiyorum ki beni seviyorsun = I do not know (that) you love me.
