Culture & Language is the ninety-ninth (assuming read left to right) skill in the language tree for Welsh. It teaches words for important Welsh cultural events like the Chairing of the Bard (Gadeirio Bardd). It has three lessons.

Cultural Notes[]

The National Eistoddfed (yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol) is held every summer and is a week long celebration of Welsh language, culture, art and poetry. It was held in Powys in 2015 and Abergavenny in 2016, and will be in Anglesey in 2017 and Cardiff in 2018. It is one of the largest cultural festivals in Europe and is presided over by the "archdruid". Maes D is a special event held for people learning Welsh during the Eistoddfed, and has events tailored to learners.

Saunders Lewis was a proponent of Welsh language education and founded the Party of Wales, Y Plaid Cymru to succeed in allowing the Welsh to speak Welsh. Im 1962 he wrote and performed "Tynged yr Iaith" ("Fate of the Language") on radio, which led to the creation of Y Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg. This group led protests which eventually led to the current promotion of Welsh language and culture in Britain.
